Abstract

The article is devoted to cross-cultural studies of the history of flamenco art in the first quarter of the 21st century. The aim of the work is to study the activities of the Japanese bailaor Nagata Ken in the context of popularization of dance culture. The objectives of the study include the analysis of publications related to the history of the spread of flamenco in the world from the 1920s to the present. The focus is on the experience of the best Japanese flamenco performers, films created in the last five years with the participation of 770 dancers representing 79 flamenco schools in 47 Japanese prefectures. Considering approaches to the preparation of festivals, competitions and other international events, the author emphasizes the special contribution of choreographer Nagata Ken as a researcher of the cultural practice of flamenco, the creator of dance theater, the initiator and producer of films dedicated to the art of flamenco. The work focuses on the study of national dance in the context of the history of world dance culture. The academic novelty of the study lies in the fact that the sources in foreign languages presented in the article are considered by the author as potential educational texts. The practice-oriented materials studied may be useful for art and culture historians, students, postgraduates and teachers at the universities of Arts and Humanities.
