Conservation and restoration of archaeological artefacts.

Abstract

This article discusses the basic principles of conservation and restoration of movable objects of archaeological heritage (artefacts). The importance of field conservation works as the main means of protecting artefacts at the excavation site at the time of their discovery is emphasized. Some provisions of a general legal nature are stipulated, as well as the main methodological principles and techniques when working with specific types of archaeological objects, such as wet archaeological wood, objects with gilding, fossil textiles, etc. The purpose of the work is to give a capacious descriptive description of current trends in conservation and restoration activities aimed at preserving archaeological objects as a special type of historical and cultural heritage of mankind. The methodological basis of the research is based on the principles of consistency and objectivity. The main methodological techniques were the analysis of sources and thematic scientific literature, synthesis and generalization, as well as the methodology of interdisciplinary research, which is necessary due to the specific nature of the subject under study — its position at the junction of natural and humanitarian sciences.
